Cikakken sunan Shata shine Muhammadu. Sunan Mamman lakani ne irin wanda kakanni kan radawa jikokinsu tun suna yara. Ita kuwa kalmar “Shata”. lakani ne wanda ake kiransa da shi lokacin da yake cinikin goro.
Baba Magaji Salamu Musawa, wanda a lokacin shine ubangidan Alhaji Mamman shata, shi ya rada masa sunan “Shata”. A lokacin da Alhaji Mamman shata ke saida goro, ba’a san wata aba wai ita bakar goro ba, goron kawai ake sayarwa hamsin-hamsin, kuma a kan saida guda-guda. Cinikin baka na kasa goro ana sayarwa da guda-guda ai sai kananan ‘yan goro inji Alhaji Mamman shata.
A wancan lokacin da Alhaji Mamman shata ke saida goro baya kirgawa, sai dai ya kwasa ya baiwa mai saye dai-dai kudinsa, shi yasa ake ce masa -shata- wato mai saida goro babu ce a shata fill, amma wadda ake amfani da ita wajen sunan Alhaji mamman hata ita ce ta diban abu a bayar kamar ba’a so.
Alhaji Dr. Mamman shata Katsina a halin da ake ciki yanzu ya zamewa makada da mawakan Hausa Dutse baka daukuwa saida gammo, mutsu-mutsu gobe jar kasa, ruwan dare mai gama duniya, ya buga da mazajen farko gashi yana bugawa da mazajen yanzu. Abinda marokinsa ke fada ke nan kafin ya fara wakarsa ta Bakandamiya.
Babu wata kasa a duniya da zata bugi kirji ita kadai tace ta sami cigaba a rana guda.Su kansu kasashen da suka ci gaba irin su Amurka, Tarayyar Soviet, China, Birtaniya da Japan da Jamus sun yi amfani ne da kyawawan al’adunsu wajen gina tushen cigaban da suka samu.
Mawaka da makadan wadannan kasashe da suka ci gaba sun bada gudummawa mai yawan gaske ta fuskar irin tasu fasahar wajen ciyar da kasashen nasu gaba.Farfesa Dandatti Abdulkadir, kafin ya zama shugabanjami’ar Bayero dake Kano a Nijeriya, ya rubuta makalarsa ne kan rayuwa da wakokin Alhaji Mamman shata sannan ya gabatar wa shaihunan Malaman Amurka don su tabbatar masa da samun digirinsa na uku (Ph. D).
Wannan yunkuri na (Farfesa) Abdulkadir Dandatti ya tabbatar da cewa shaharar da Alhaji Mamman Shata yayi, ba a Nijeriya kawai ta tsaya ba harma da wadansu manyan kasashen duniya.Kafin zuwan turawa kasar Hausa, al’ummar Hausawa na da addininsu na Musulunci, akwai kuma kadan dake bin addinin gargajiya da ake kiransu Maguzawa.
Ba’a san hikimar rubuta sunayen yara da shekarunsu a ajiye don tarihi ba kamar yadda yanzu ake yi. Wannan shi yasa ba’a san cikakkiyar shekarar da za’a ce an haifi Alhaji Mamman shata ba.
Amma a shekarar da ya kai iyara gidan Rediyon Amurka cikin 1989, yace shekarunsa 65 a wancan lokaci, an kuma yi hassashen cewar an haife shi cikin 1926.
A daya daga cikin tattaunawar da aka taba yi da Mamman Shata ya ce ya fara waka ne tun daga kiriniyar yara ta rera waka kuma daga baya ta zamar masa sana’a.Masana da yawa sunyi nazari da bincike akan wakokin Shata amma har yanzu ba’a san takamaiman adadin wakokin da ya rera ba saboda dumbin yawansu.
Mahaifiyar Shata su biyu ta haifa tare da mahaifinsa; Mamman Shata, da ‘yar uwarsa, Yelwa, amma ta haihu a aurenta na farko.Shata ya shafe mafi yawan shekarun rayuwarsa a garin Kano duk da dai yana da gidaje a Katsina, Kaduna, Kano, da ragowar wasu biranen Najeriya.
Mamman Shata ya rasu a shekarar 1999 kuma an binne shi a garin Daura kamar yadda ya bar wasiyya. Alhaji Mamman shata yayi wakarsa ta Bakandamiya har sau biyu.
Ta farko ce wadda yayi lokacinda Alhaji Adamu Salihu yayi hira da shi a gidan Rediyo-Telbijin na Kaduna. Ta biyun ita ce wadda aka dauka a faifan garmaho. An hada duka wakokin biyu cikin wannan littfafi, sai dai a wakarsa ta biyu an rage wasu baitoci.
A duk lokacin da Alhaji Mamman Shata ya zuga kansa a wakarsa ta Bakandamiya sai ya bada dalili, kuma ya nemi duk wanda bai amince da shi ba yana iya fitowa filin waka a gwada a gani kamar yadda yake cewa cikin wannan baitin kamar haka:
Idan kuma kayi musu sanya Mu gani ko daga ina a yi wakar.Alhaji Mamman Shata Katsina ya nuna tausayinsa ga marokan birni da na; kauye masu yin kida da waka domin su sami na abinci, idan kuma kidan yayi masu kyau suyi auren zamani. Babu shakka Bakandamiyyar Shata kalu-bale-ce ga duka maroka da makadan Hausa.
